Overview

We’re seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead the design, development, and implementation of complex automation and controls projects. This role is ideal for a self-motivated engineer who thrives on technical challenges, enjoys mentoring others, and is passionate about delivering high-quality engineering solutions.

You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to design electrical systems, develop PLC/HMI programs, and support the commissioning of advanced machinery—helping drive our Lean culture and continuous improvement initiatives. This is an on-site position at our state of the art facility in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience: 6–10 years in electrical design and programming for capital equipment (mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems).
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong background in PLC programming (Omron, Allen-Bradley, Siemens preferred).
  • Experience with HMI software (Indusoft preferred).
  • Experience with robotic programming (ABB, Fanuc a plus).
  • Proficiency in CAD for schematics and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to evaluate processes for efficiency and waste reduction.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer-site commissioning.

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and execute electrical and controls design for automation projects with minimal supervision.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other Controls Engineers.
  • Design electrical schematics, enclosure layouts, and related documentation.
  • Develop and implement PLC, HMI, and robotic programs for automated systems.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers to meet project requirements and timelines.
  • Support manufacturing assembly, installation, and site acceptance testing (SAT).
  • Maintain project schedules and status in MPI’s information system (Epicor Projects).
  • Ensure compliance with ANSI, OSHA, and MPI safety standards.
  • Participate in daily Lean meetings and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
