The position of Field Service Engineer travels to customer locations to perform professional service work including technical support, fault diagnosis, machine installations, repairs, calibrations, preventive maintenance, upgrades, customer training, and consultative work. This position requires a thorough understanding of Mechanical, Hydraulic and Electrical circuits and will include specialized training on MPI’s Wax Injectors and Automation cells serving the Investment Casting Industry.

 

Qualifications

Skills / Qualifications / Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills:  listening, verbal and written, even when interfacing with customers whose primary language may not be English.
  • Position requires high level of independent critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Ability to deliver presentations in front of technical or commercial customer staffing.
  • Must possess very good organizational skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Independent worker with excellent reasoning and decision-making ability.
  • Effective customer service skills to calm upset customers and work with demanding customers.
  • Able to work in an environment that at times may have time pressures and stressful situations.
  • Driven to perform assignment to a thorough conclusion.
  • Advanced computer skills and command of MS Office SW Products.
  • Working knowledge or experience with ERP data entry, EpiCor a plus.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Current travel credentials to support international travel, if required.
  • Mentor to peers, team player to all.

 

 

 

Education and Experience:

  • AS degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or relevant experience will be considered.
  • 7+ years working with Hydraulics, Pneumatics, PLC’s, Windows.
  • Automation / 6-axis Robotics experience a plus.

Work Environment:

  • Onsite support of Norh American customers with the ability to travel worldwide.
  • Weekend work and travel may be required to support customer needs.
  • 75% work onsite at Customers, 25% remote work from home office or / MPI factory in NY.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and safely move 1,000 lbs. with proper equipment.
  • Industrial / Production where safe work habits and local health and safety compliance is required.
  • Investment Casting Industry - Wax Room Injection, Assembly and Automation applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform as a technical resource to assigned duties in the Field Service department.
  • Respond to phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication in the effort to address customer’s technical issues.
  • Able to demonstrate professional image and take ownership of issues assigned.
  • Function as MPI’s principal liaison between the customer and the factory for all service matters.
  • Possess excellent troubleshooting skills and ability to identify alternative solutions when faced with obstacles.
  • Perform remote diagnostics through TeamViewer or other remote connectivity platforms.
  • Travel to customer sites and be “hands on” as required resolving technical matters in the field.
  • Strong understanding of electrical circuits, hydraulic, and pneumatic engineering principles with the ability to interpret schematics.
  • Understand PLCs logic, Temperature controllers and other controls components as required.
  • Ability to understand automation components including robotic setup and Vison applications .
  • Understanding of machine bill of materials and how to correlate with schematics.
  • Create easy to follow, pictorial and step-by-step instructions and procedures for use in guiding customers during diagnosing, troubleshooting, and training.
  • Possess understanding of mechanical functionality and experience in disassembly and assembly of components.
  • Knowledge of machine operation including purpose/function of all standard features and options.
  • Knowledge of wax room operations, how the equipment is used by the customer with an understanding of what matters most to customers.
  • Evaluate customer’s process methods and practices and make recommendations on how best to utilize MPI equipment to meet their goals.
  • Interpret technical specifications to assure proper functionality and to consult Customers.
  • Maintain proper inventory accountability and control on all components and parts used.
  • Document work in the form of field service reports to communicate to all intended parties.
  • Consult engineering when required and collaborate on developing technical solutions.
  • Report any quality issues from the field back through proper channels to address issues.
  • Work to perform assignments within the time guidelines of the job while maintaining compliance.
  • Create and conduct technical training sessions as required.
  • Support Sales technical inquiries as required.
  • Support Site Acceptance Testing when requested.
  • Make recommendations that will reduce costs and improve the product efficiency.
  • Utilize MPI’s preferred ERP system to effectively document and communicate within MPI.
  • Adhere to all guidelines and rules when travelling on company business as described in the travel policy.
  • Understand and comply with all policies outlined in the Company Handbook.
  • Other duties as assigned by Sr. Field Service Eng / Service management.
